Woltman wins Open

— Former University of Wisconsin golfer Daniel Woltman of Beaver Dam won a two-hole playoff over Neil Johnson of River Falls to collect his second Wisconsin State Open championship on Wednesday at Blackwolf Run.

Woltman joins Bob Brue as the only two-time amateur winners of the championship.


Woltman and Johnson finished at 283 after completing the final 36 holes. Johnson held a five-stroke lead coming into the final two rounds.


Mike Hesselman, a former Edgerton High golfer, shot 75 and 77 on the final day for the area’s best total for the tournament. He tied for 17th at 299.


Milton’s Kirk Wieland tied for 31st after posting rounds of 80-76 for a 304 final. Lake Geneva’s Alex Gaugert closed with 79-77 for a 309 and tied for 42nd. Whitewater’s Brett Weber finished 79-80 for a 312 and a four-way tie for 46th place.
