Janesville Craig and Janesville Parker girls golf teams got the Big Eight Conference dual season off to a winning start Wednesday.

Parker, the three-time defending conference tournament champion, swept past Madison West and Madison East at Riverside. The Vikings had a 349 total, four shots better than Madison West.

Madison East’s Alex Douglas was the medalist with a 1-under-par 70, but the Purgolders did not have the required five varsity players to post a team score.

Craig coasted past Sun Prairie and Verona at Sun Prairie. The Cougars had a 493, led by Kyleigh Fenton’s 93.

“It’s great to get that first win,” first-year Craig coach Dominic Wiegel said. “We had a little trouble with one bad hole transitioning into two or three bad holes, but we played much better on the back nine.”

Senior Molly Rozeboom had an 81 to lead Parker. Katie Brossard added an 83 as the Vikings clipped the Regents, one of the Big Eight preseason favorites.

“We played pretty good on our home course, and got a big win over West,” Parker coach John Zimmerman said. “It was a good way to start the Big Eight season.”

Parker and Craig will be back in action today at the Milton Best Ball Tournament at Oak Ridge.
