Janesville police, fire, Red Cross, Hazmat, and other emergency responders turned out at Traxler Park Thursday to participate in a training exercise requested by the National Guard.

Janesville Firefighter/Paramedic Kent Shea says the scenario was a disgruntled property owner wanting to get back at the city. Shea says the imaginary property owner released a chemical agent at the park in anticipation of a National Show Ski Tournament. Major Tim Covington with the National Guard 54th Civil Support Team assisted in the exercise.

His assessment is Janesville has the appropriate resources to properly respond to such an incident.
