Janesville Craig and Janesville Parker high school girls golf teams had strong showings Tuesday in the Beloit Scramble at Krueger-Haskell Golf Course.

Craig and Parker finished tied for second in the seven-team meet with 67s, but the Cougars were awarded the second-place trophy on a scorecard tiebreaker.

Madison West won the five-player event with an 8-under 64.

Craig's team consisted of seniors Lindsey Beals, Kyleigh Fenton and Sarah Sheldon, freshman Ashley Hermanns and sophomore Bailey Green.

"It was a very good day for us," first-year Craig coach Dominic Wiegel said. "As I watched them play, it was pretty obvious that everybody was contributing to the good round.

"We made five or six fairly long putts. And we avoided the bad holes."

Parker matched Craig's total with a team of Molly Rozeboom, Katie Brossard, Amanda Becker, Jennifer Polglaze and Taylor Utzig.

"We hit the ball pretty well from tee to green, but we didn't putt very well," Parker coach John Zimmerman said. "In a scramble, you have to make more putts than we did today to give yourself a chance."

The Janesville schools begin Big Eight Conference dual play today. Parker hosts Madison East and Madison West at Riverside, while the Cougars are at Sun Prairie along with Verona.
