Milton School District residents will likely be paying more in taxes next year.
Superintendent Bernie Nikolay says voters at the annual meeting this week approved a $33 million budget, and a 10% increase in the tax levy. This increase represents the maximum allowed by law. School board members have expressed a concern, if they don't tax to the max, they'll lose potential revenue under state limits in the future.
The proposed tax levy is $8.09 per $1000 property value, or a $.74 increase over this year.
