The city's new economic development director is ready to take on Janesville's unique challenges.

Vic Grassman is currently the business development specialist for Denver, Colorado. His work history, though, includes time in the City of Milwaukee, the Wisconsin Department of Commerce and UW-Whitewater's Small Business Development Center. He says he has a pretty good feel for how economic development is done in Wisconsin. He says Janesville is at a transition point, but it has the fundamentals of land, interstate access and buildings. With the closing of the General Motors plant, he says Janesville is ready to move in a new direction.

Grassman plans to begin work in Janesville October 12. Doug Venable, the city's current economic development director, is retiring.
