WCLO's Steve Benton reports on a federal program that helps get nutritional food to low income students in Beloit

RSS

— The U.S.D.A. program that brings fresh fruit and vegetables to low to moderate income school children is expanding in Beloit.

Principal at Wright elementary, Susan Green, says Hackett, Merrill and her school are getting around $43,000, or about $51.00 per student, to participate.

She says students will get a chance to sample various kinds of fruit and vegetables three times a week. Many of the students don't get the opportunity to try fruit like kiwi or pineapple at home.

Green says the program gets the fresh food to the kids and shows them dietary options they may not get at home.
