A local legislator criticizes the way Madison Area Technical College is prioritizing the use of public resources.

Representative Steve Nass of Whitewater uses a letter to MATC's chairman of the board and the college president to question the process of renaming the school and its marketing nickname. He says the effort is Madison Area Technical College's attempt to distance itself from the other MATC--Milwaukee Area Technical College. Nass says if the school has money to waste on those issues, he questions why technical colleges told legislators during the state budget process that reductions would have a horrific implication on the schools. He's requesting a detailed accounting of how the money is being used and cost of staff time.

Nass is the ranking Republican on the Assembly Colleges and Universities Committee.
