— A meeting to appoint a replacement for Alderman Gary Dunham, who resigned from the city council Friday, was canceled Monday night for lack of a quorum.

Aldermen Mary Jo Fesenmaier, Penny Roehrer and Tom Spellman were absent. Fesenmaier and Roehrer were excused. Spellman was not excused.

The meeting—with a shortened agenda—was rescheduled for 1:30 p.m. today.

Dunham, who served as president of the city council and chairman of the finance, license and regulation committee, announced his resignation Aug. 3.

In his letter to Mayor Bill Chesen, he said he is moving from Lake Geneva, where he rented an apartment, to Walworth, where he owns a Victorian home he spent about a year restoring. He became "quite attached" to the house during the restoration, he wrote.

Dunham said it was "immensely gratifying" to serve on the city council and apologized for leaving "so many loose ends."

His resignation was effective Friday.

Dunham was appointed to the city council in February 2005 to fill an unexpired term. He ran for election and lost in April 2006, but within weeks, he was appointed to fill a vacant seat. Dunham was elected to the council in 2007 and 2009.

City Clerk Diana Dykstra said two people, including former mayor Spyro "Speedo" Condos, have expressed interest in fulfilling the remainder of Dunham's term.
