WCLO's Stan Stricker reports on drop in public transportation ridership

RSS

The economy may be having an impact on public transit ridership in Janesville.

Director of the Janesville Transit System, Dave Mumma, says ridership was down almost 10% the first six months of the year. He says city officials anticipated the economic slowdown and decided against a planned fare increase this year, to help those needing the bus system for transportation. Despite the loss in revenue from fewer riders, Mumma doesn't expect a change in service this year.

He does expect the topic to be discussed by the city council when 2010 budget discussions begin.
