Rockport Road to close for city utility work

JANESVILLE — Segments of Rockport Road between Linn and High streets in the city of Janesville are scheduled to be closed to through traffic starting at 8 a.m. Monday.

Closures are scheduled to continue through Friday, Aug. 21.

Utility work will take place during that time.

As construction progresses, through traffic will be detoured around two block segments.

Local access to all residences within the closed sections will be maintained throughout the closure period.

The construction will provide improvements to the city's sanitary sewer system.

Two Janesville Transit System bus routes will be affected by the street closures on Rockport Road.

The routes will be detoured as follows:

-- The West State Street route will turn off southbound Academy Street at Wilson Avenue, travel two blocks west on Wilson to Linn and then south on Linn and to rejoin the normal route at Rockport.

Passengers who normally board the bus at Academy and Rockport should walk one block north to Wilson Street to find their bus.

Once construction west of Academy Street is complete, the West State Street bus will resume its normal route.

-- The Kellogg Avenue route will continue north on Center Avenue to Wilson. It will travel east on Wilson until it is past the construction zone.

Passengers who normally board the Kellogg Avenue bus at intersections between Linn Street and High Street along Rockport Road should walk one block north to Wilson to find their bus.
