Fielder, Mota fined by MLB, but not suspended
NEW YORK Milwaukee Brewers star Prince Fielder and Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Guillermo Mota were fined Thursday for their run-in this week.
Major League Baseball will not suspend them. The amounts of the fines were not disclosed.
"My agent took care of it. He told me I got fined, but he didn't tell me how much it was," Mota said before the Dodgers opened a four-game series against Atlanta in Los Angeles. "I wasn't suspended. I got fined. So why do I have to talk about it? That was two days ago. That's in the past. I'm just here to do my job."
Mota hit Fielder in the ninth inning of a 17-4 win Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium, presumably as payback for Milwaukee's Chris Smith grazing Manny Ramirez with a pitch two innings earlier.
Afterward, Fielder charged across a hallway toward the Dodgers' clubhouse but was restrained by teammates and security. The teams played Wednesday night and there were no incidents.
"Last night he was like a raging bull. But nothing happened, so there's no reason to suspend him," Milwaukee teammate Ryan Braun said after the Brewers' 4-1 in the series finale.
"We kind of discussed the situation beforehand today, but we didn't really expect anything to happen,"' he said. "Prince handled it great. He's really able to stay within himself. He was obviously very emotional and fired up yesterday, but he settled down and stayed within himself today."
The Brewers were off Thursday.
Fielder and Mota played together in Milwaukee. The All-Star first baseman and reliever clearly weren't too friendly after Fielder's eruption.
"I don't remember that," Fielder said Wednesday. "I think he was just trying to come inside and it got away from him. He was trying to hit his spot. I wish he hit his spot, but it just missed. All that other stuff is out of my control."

I watch the Brewer game when Moto was pitching. He did it propose when he threw the pitch at Prince Fielder. Is this kind of game sportsmanship to we want for our kids to see.
Luckily it wasn't a bench clearing incident. I was glad that Moto was thrown out of the game, but he should have suspended also, plus the fine. As for Prince Fielder the fine was okay, he knows better then to try get even after the game. Let bygones be bygones.
