Snappers whip Chiefs
Michael Harrington and Angel Morales, the No. 7 and 8 hitters, each drove in three runs as Beloit handed the Peoria Chiefs a costly 7-1 defeat in Midwest League baseball at Pohlman Field.
The loss dropped Peoria (21-17) out of a first-place tie with Cedar Rapids (23-16) in the West Division's second-half race.
Beloit (15-23) stuck it to the Chiefs with three runs in the second and four in the third for a 7-0 lead that lasted until the eighth.
Daniel Rams singled and Harrington walked to set up a three-run homer by Morales in the second.
Harrington had a three-run double to highlight Beloit's big third. James Beresford and Aaron Hicks singled, and Ozzie Lewis followed with an RBI double. Aaron Shafer then drew an intentional walk to load the bases for Harrington.
Beloit starting pitcher Bobby Lanigan allowed only four hits through eighth innings in getting the win.
The Snappers and Peoria complete their three-game series here at 7 tonight.
