Snappers win in ninth

FORT WAYNE, IND. — The Beloit Snappers saved their best for last here Sunday.

James Beresford's RBI single in the top of the ninth broke a 2-2 tie and gave Beloit a 3-2 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps before a Midwest League baseball crowd of 7,892.

Dominic De La Osa walked with one out to start the Snappers' winning rally. He stole second with two outs and scored on Beresford's line drive to left field.

Angel Morales' solo home run to center field in the seventh inning brought Beloit back from a 2-1 deficit.

The Snappers had a brief 1-0 lead after Drew Thompson doubled in the third and scored on Aaron Hicks' single. Fort Wayne tied it in the bottom of the third and gained its brief 2-1 edge in the sixth.

Beloit starter Brad Tippett allowed only four hits through seven innings, and Snapper relievers Blake Martin and Steven Blevins worked two hitless innings. Martin (2-1) got the win in pitching 1q innings.

The Snappers open a home series at 7 tonight against Peoria.
