Big hits aren't enough for Parker baseball team

Janesville Parker High School got big hits, but they weren’t enough in a 7-5 loss to host Madison Memorial in Big Eight Conference baseball Tuesday.

Ross Mauermann delivered a bases-loaded triple to give the Vikings a 4-2 lead after three innings, and Kelly Silha and Aaron Jacobson hit back-to-back doubles in the fifth to give Parker a 5-4 lead, but a lethal combination of walks and errors take down Parker.

“We had eight walks,” Parker coach Brian Martin said. “We had a couple errors, and the walks and errors combined to hurt us.’’

Parker starter Trent Kobs allowed six runs—four earned—on six hits.

After Parker took a 5-4 lead in the fifth, Memorial scored two runs on three walks and base hit in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead for good, 6-5.

The Vikings (3-6, 2-5 Big Eight) host Beloit Memorial at 5 p.m. Thursday at Riverside Park.
