— Recent rains, and the threat of more rain this weekend, have put Rock County officials in a position they were in last year about this time. They're watching the Rock River rise.

Tell tale signs of potential problems include standing water in fields and the need to close roads because of high water. All of these signs appeared last year as well.

Right now the Rock River isn't near flood stage, but water in the Avon bottoms, near the Sugar River, has forced the closing of two county roads. In addition to that, the Town of Beloit is requesting a "slow no wake" zone be posted along the river.

Rock County Sheriff's Office Captain Gary Groelle says they are monitoring conditions in the county on a daily basis and will issue news releases when necessary. He says there are no "red flags" yet, but with the forecast of more rain this weekend, the potential for flooding is there.
