Warhawks' last series with Stout ends with a split

MENOMONIE — UW-Whitewater closed its season series with UW-Stout with a split in a WIAC baseball doubleheader Monday.

The Warhawks (21-11, 13-8) lost the opener, 6-1, but bounced back to rip the Blue Devils, 13-3. The teams went 2-2 for the season series.

In the opener, the Warhawks’ starter Ben Versnik (2-2) allowed four runs on five hits in five innings to absorb the loss.

In the second game, Whitewater hammered Stout with four runs in the first inning, and rolled to the victory. Whitewater pounded out 16 hits, including home runs from Kevin Zalnis and Matt Millar.

The Warhawks will conclude their home season schedule by hosting UW-Platteville at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Prucha Field. The Warhawks and Pioneers will conclude a suspended game before their regular doubleheader.
