Several Rock county organizations recognize April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Law enforcement, health care, and advocacy groups joined together for a ceremony Tuesday in Janesville's Wedge Park near Mercy Hospital. Mercy Director of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program, or "SANE", Jackie Friar says helping victims takes a cooperative effort. Rock County district Attorney David O'Leary says help from programs like "SANE" help the victim heal, and investigators gather important evidence. Janesville Police Chief David Moore says victims deserve a time to heal, and programs like "SANE" help.

The number of sexual assaults appear high. Moore says his department handled 93 cases last year.
