It's no secret Janesville's been through tough times during the recession.

Secretary of Health Services Karen Timberlake joins Assembly Speaker Mike Sheridan to tour areas of the city Monday that address worker training and low-income families. First, the two will discuss funding for technical colleges at Blackhawk Tecnical College. Timberlake will focus on programs that train displaced workers for occupations in health care.

Later, they will tour the ECHO food pantry. Department of Health Services spokeswoman Stephanie Smiley says ECHO has grown from a food pantry to a charity organization that fills a variety of emergency needs for low-income families. Sheridan and Timberlake will discuss the impact of the economic downturn on food pantries.
