— Waukesha West High School’s girls track and field program continued its dominance of the Janesville Parker Invitational here Friday night.

Led by an abundance of talented distance runners, the Wolverines cruised to their sixth straight title in the 11th annual event at Monterey Stadium.

Waukesha West finished with 187 points to win the eight-team title, while Verona was second with 150. The host Vikings, led by double individual winner Shelby Demos, finished third with 1292.

“This is an outstanding meet,” Parker coach Dave Lehmann said. “I tried to get a ninth team to compete because we have nine lanes, but because this is such a talented field, it’s tough to get anyone to commit.

“We are lacking in depth in a couple of events, and that hurt us, but I was really pleased with the way we performed.

“Our 800 relay team won with a time that is going to be one of the top times in the state.”

Parker’s 800 relay team of Emily Mauermann, Niquisha Kenerson, Demos and Kelsey Jones won with a time of 1 minute, 47.31 seconds, the second-fastest time in meet history.

Demos, the defending Division 1 state champion in the high jump, won the event Friday by clearing 5-6. The senior also raced to victory in the 100 high hurdles with a time of 16.16.

Parker’s other individual winners were Kenerson in the triple jump with a leap of 34-3, and senior Erika Moen in the discus with a throw of 107-0.

“Waukesha West is one of the top programs in the state, and Verona is also a quality program,” Lehmann said.

“It’s always good to see how you stack up against the best. Like I said, we have some depth problems in a couple of events, but overall it was a great night for us.”

Waukesha West picked up half of its points in the distance events. The Wolverines finished first and second in the 3,200-meter run, won the 1,600-meter run, along with the 3,200 relay and finished second and third in the 800-meter run.
