— Janesville Craig High School’s girls soccer team rode a big second half to a 5-2 victory over Elkhorn in the first round of the Cougar Invitational here Friday.

Craig broke a 2-2 tie with three second-half goals. Emma Fashing’s second goal of the game, which came at the 42:42 mark on an assist from Chelsea Sheedy, gave the Cougars the lead for good.

Samantha Glowacki got an unassisted goal at 51:28, and Nicole Gutzman scored on an assist from Sarah Ziegler at 60:32 to complete the scoring. Gutzman also had a first-half goal on an assist from Ashley Overley.

“We were pretty exhausted after a tough game last (Thursday) night,’’ Craig coach Bill McCabe said of the Cougars’ rebound from a 4-0 loss to Madison La Follette. “We came out a little sluggish, but we made a few minor adjustments (at halftime) and were able to turn it around.’’

In Friday’s other game, Green Bay East defeated Tomah, 3-1.

The Cougars play Tomah at 9 a.m. and Green Bay East at noon in today’s second- and third-round games of the pre-paired tournament.
