Craig softball team leaves West behind
JANESVILLE Janesville Craig took advantage of a bumbling Madison West defense and crusied to a 10-0 Big Eight Conference softball victory Thursday at Dawson Field.
The Regents made nine errors, including five during Craig High’s seven-run second inning. Audrey Freeman had an RBI single, while Hayley Bayreuther and Jillynn Mortensen added bases-loaded walks.
The Cougars (7-4, 5-2) put the game away in the sixth as Gabrielle Cassady hit a lead-off single and came around to score on an error. Abby Sullivan drove in the final run.
“We played well defensively,” Craig coach Dan Bayreuther said. “We did what we were capable of doing. Our pitching was good again. That’s been a consistent all year.”
Craig starter Bailie Whittaker pitched five shutout innings.
