Whitewater baseball team team gives Vodenlich 200th victory

WHITEWATER — Ben Kuhlmann’s bases-loaded single in the 12th inning gave UW-Whitewater baseball coach John Vodenlich a milestone victory and kept the Warhawks (19-9, 11-6) in first place in the WIAC on Wednesday.

The 6-5 victory over UW-Platteville was career win No. 200 for Vodenlich, who is 200-65-1 as Whitewater’s sixth-year head coach.

The second game of the doubleheader was suspended after eight innings with Whitewater leading 7-5. The game will be finished before the teams play a regularly scheduled doubleheader next Wednesday.

Kuhlmann, Max Cordio and Mike Kenseth each drove in two runs for the Warhawks, who are ranked 24th and 25th in the two major NCAA Division III baseball polls.

Matt Beyer began Whitewater’s winning rally in the 12th with a single. He was awarded second on interference. Ryan Leavitt bunted, and the throw to third was too late to get Beyer.

Sam Petrasko was walked intentionally, setting up Kuhlmann’s winning single over the drawn-in outfield.

Reliever Aaron Dott (5-3) picked up the victory.

The Warhawks play doubleheaders at UW-Stout on Saturday and Sunday.
