Warhawks will at least tie for WIAC softball title
Jessica Stang and Stacy Bahr’s strong starting pitching helped UW-Whitewater clinch at least a tie for the WIAC softball title Wednesday.
The Warhawks defeated host UW-Oshkosh, 8-1 and 3-2, to go to 14-0 in the conference standings. Whitewater, which is ranked ninth in this week’s National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III poll, is 28-3 overall.
Amy Gahl went 3-for-4, including a double and her fourth homer of the season, in the Warhawks’ romp in the first game. Suzanne Gersich, Nichole Bothun and Lauren Cruz each added two hits.
Cruz had a two-run homer, while Gahl’s two-run homer in the in the second gave the Warhawks a 5-1 lead.
Stang, a sophomore lefthander, improved to 14-1 with a complete game.
Bahr, with three innings of relief help from Stang, improved to 8-1 with a win in the second game. Gahl and Gersich extended their hitting streaks to 11 and 10 games, respectively.
Amanda LeBeau doubled in the winning run for the Warhawks.
