Details are available about a planned parking structure in downtown Janesville.
The parking structure is planned for a surface lot at the corner of Wall Street and North Parker Drive. The new structure would ideally be four levels, but could be three and a half levels if the City Council deems the project cost too high. The four-level structure is estimated at $4.4 million and would include up to 230 parking stalls. The structure also allows for various pedestrian bridges to the adjoining buildings. The architects suggest the structure could spur economic development, and similar structures have had positive impacts in cities around Wisconsin.
A previous parking structure was constructed there in 1958 and demolished in 2001.
