Parker track and field splits wins at Sun Prairie

SUN PRAIRIE — Janesville Parker High School split with the Cardinals in Big Eight Conference co-ed track and field Wednesday at Sun Prairie.

The Viking boys rolled to a 98-43 victory, while the Parker girls lost, 81-58.

In leading the Parker boys to a 2-0 conference record, LaVelle Hewlett won the 200 dash (23.4) and the 400 (51.88), Calvin Nauer won the shot put (43-9) and the discus (146-20), and Nick Cahill won the triple jump (40-10½) and the long jump (19-10). The Viking boys won 14 events.

Shelby Demos won the 100 high hurdles (15.1) and the high jump (5 foot, 2 inches) for two of the Parker girls’ six individual event victories.

Emily Mauermann won the 100 (13.4), Kelsey Jones won the 200 (27.0), Erika Moen won the discus (121-4) and Kristin Zeilinger won the pole vault (7-0) for the Vikings.

“We had a pretty good day,” coach Dave Lehmann said. “But Sun Prairie was just the better team.’’

The loss dropped Parker to 0-2 in Big Eight duals.

The Viking girls host Beloit Memorial, Franklin, Merrill, Oak Creek, Verona, Waukesha West and Westosha Central in the Parker Invitational at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Monterey Stadium.
