La Follette sweeps Craig track teams

— Madison La Follette swept past Janesville Craig in a dual track meet in windy and rainy conditions Tuesday afternoon at Monterey Stadium.

The Lancer boys prevailed, 78-63. The La Follette girls won, 77.5-62.5.

JoJo Pregont led the Craig High boys by winning the long jump (20-4) and triple jump (39-7). With Cy Badertscher taking second and Joe Kennedy third, the Cougars swept the long jump.

“We had a few bright spots,” said Craig coach Jeff Deininger. “Once the weather gets warmer, our times will improve.”

The Cougars also swept the top three places in the 300 intermediate hurdles, with junior Brandon Rusch winning in 45.61, followed by Tyler Lawrence and Tom Kitching. Lawrence won the 100 high hurdles in 45.61.

Craig also took the top three places in the pole vault, with junior Alex Crandall winning the event (12-0). Aaron Lueth was second and David Yazumbek was third.

Junior Caroline Shea led the Cougar girls by winning both the 100 (12.81) and 200 (27.92), which was run into the wind.

Freshman Katherine Bagley won the 400(1:04.55). Cassidi Running was first in the 3,200 (11:49.47).

The Cougars’ also received individual wins from Ally Wirkus in the long jump (15-6.25), Michelle Straw in the high jump (4-6) and Amanda Klobucar in the pole vault (7-0).

“Considering the weather, I was pretty happy with the results,” Craig coach Mark Marsden said.

Both Craig teams will compete in the Watertown Invitational on Friday.
