WCLO's Steve Benton reports on a new online service for Beloit residents

RSS

— The city of Beloit is giving the public a new way to get information, through an online service.

Director of Information Systems, Angela Galfano, says they wanted to give the public another way to get "snow emergency information" and decided to include other alerts and news releases as well.

Galfano says the service will send an e-mai,l or text message, notifying residents of things like road closings, or even employment opportunities. She says it's easy to sign up and it's free.

The technology has been out there a while, says Galfano, but Beloit is one of the first cities in the state to use it. The system has been tested for about a month and about 200 people signed up. Now that the general public has access to it, the service should become popular.

There's a link to the subscription page on Beloit's home web page.
