Warhawks split games with UW-Superior
WHITEWATER UW-Whitewater bounced back from a 10-0 shelling with an 11-2 victory to split with UW-Superior in WIAC baseball on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Prucha Field.
Whitewater is in first place in the WIAC race with a 10-6 record. UW-Stevens Point and UW-Oshkosh are tied for second place, each with a 7-5 mark.
In Game 1, Yellowjackets’ starter Cale Tassi (1-2) scattered seven hits, notched eight strikeouts and allowed one walk to blank the Warhawks in eight innings. Whitewater left seven runners on base.
Superior reached Whitewater pitching for 10 hits. Starter CJ Herrforth (2-1) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on four hits through 2 2/3 innings of work.
In Game 2, the Warhawks reached Superior starter Justin Saufley (3-3) for seven runs on 10 hits through six innings.
Kevin Zalnis and Ben Kuhlman each went 3-for-4 for Whitewater. Zalnis drove in a pair of runs and Kuhlman added an RBI.
Aaron Dott (4-3) gained the seven-inning victory, allowing two runs on three hits. Dott notched 13 strikeouts and walked a pair.
The win gave Whitewater coach John Vodenlich 199 victories in his Whitewater career.
Whitewater (18-9, 10-6) will host a doubleheader with UW-Platteville (16-14, 8-8) at 1 p.m. this Wednesday.
