Verona too tough for Parker
VERONA The Janesville Parker High softball team got its first look at the dominating Verona program Thursday afternoon and the result was predictable.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and coasted to an 11-1 Big Eight Conference win in a game called after six innings due to the 10-run rule.
Despite the lopsided loss, Parker first-year coach Jenni Seisser was happy with the way her young team battled.
“We were aggressive at the plate and came out swinging the bats,” Seisser said. “If we eliminate a couple of errors early on, it’s a much closer game.
“Maggie (Tracey) didn’t throw too badly for us, we just didn’t give her enough help defensively.”
Tracey struck out seven but walked six.
Parker (1-6, 1-4) got its one run in the top of the fifth on Danielle Garber’s RBI single.
Verona (5-0, 5-0) remained atop the conference standings with the win.
The Vikings will play crosstown rival Janesville Craig this afternoon at 4:30 at Dawson Ball Field.
