Loasching says goodbye

— Council president Amy Loasching gave a pep talk to Janesville on Monday, her last day on the council.

Loasching's service on the council was a casualty of local GM plant's closure. Her job moved to Illinois, forcing her to quit the council after one two-year term.

But while on council, she pushed for more open government and as president led the effort to hire Eric Levitt as the new city manager.

Fellow council member Bill Truman said Monday was a sad day for Janesville because it was losing a council member of integrity.

"This past year has been very hard for many of our friends and our neighbors," Loasching said. "Many challenges lie ahead for all of us, but we are a strong, giving community, and we will be much stronger in the end.

"Our community will continue to grow and develop, and we will be better for it.

"It is my hope that the new council will continue down the path that we started—increasing transparency in government, involving citizens in all of our processes, continuing to reach out into the community and address such issues as poverty and diversity.

"It has been my honor and privilege to be able to serve this community," Loasching said.

Most of all, she said, she enjoyed working with community members.

"Again, thank you for putting your faith and trust in me, and I wish you all well."

Amy, you did a good job as a council member, and as a UAW union member. Good luck in the future.

Cheers Amy. Here's hoping the best for you and our city in the future. A job well done in a thankless job.
