State Senator Neal Kedzie warns of higher property taxes
Podcast Episode
ROCK COUNTY State taxpayers could be looking at a triple whammy when it comes to property taxes.
State Senator, Neal Kedzie, passed along some information on taxes Monday, and it's not the kind of news taxpayers like to hear. Kedzie says if nothing in the proposed budget changes, property tax payers will see an increase in taxes over the next two years.
According to the legislature's fiscal bureau, property taxes on a median priced Wisconsin home, valued at $166,000, would increase 3.2% this year and 4.5% next year. Meanwhile the value of that same home would drop by 3% this year and 1% next year. If that's not bad enough, the fiscal bureau also predicts Janesville would receive 1.2% less in state revenue aid while Rock County would see a drop of about 1%.
The fiscal bureau is a non-partisan arm of the legislature that provides financial information to lawmakers upon request.
