— State taxpayers could be looking at a triple whammy when it comes to property taxes.

State Senator, Neal Kedzie, passed along some information on taxes Monday, and it's not the kind of news taxpayers like to hear. Kedzie says if nothing in the proposed budget changes, property tax payers will see an increase in taxes over the next two years.

According to the legislature's fiscal bureau, property taxes on a median priced Wisconsin home, valued at $166,000, would increase 3.2% this year and 4.5% next year. Meanwhile the value of that same home would drop by 3% this year and 1% next year. If that's not bad enough, the fiscal bureau also predicts Janesville would receive 1.2% less in state revenue aid while Rock County would see a drop of about 1%.

The fiscal bureau is a non-partisan arm of the legislature that provides financial information to lawmakers upon request.

Whenever state and local governments experience a budget shortfall, their knee-jerk reaction is to collect more revenue from those still able to play. This gives the folks with their toes curling the edge of the abyss that last, little... nudge.

Brilliant.

What service increase can the taxpayer assume he/she will receive in return?

Isnt interesting that while consumers and taxpayers are forced to cut their own budgets that gov't continues to ask for more?

WI residents are taxed to death. Soon WI will be the land of Gov't employees and and those fully dependant on Govt assistance.

All the more reason for local governments to practice the art of being hyper-frugal.
