Warhawks split doubleheader

WHITEWATER — A doubleheader split against UW-La Crosse left the UW-Whitewater baseball team just where it was at the start of Thursday’s action—in third place in the WIAC, one game behind the Eagles.

The Warhawks won the first game, 9-8, scoring in the bottom of the ninth. The visiting Eagles returned the favor in the second game, scoring a run in the top of the ninth to win, 3-2.

La Crosse led the first game 4-0 and 6-3, but Whitewater rallied both times. Ryan Leavitt, Kevin Zalnis and Mike Kenseth each drove in two runs for the Warhawks.

Matt Beyer scored the game-winning run in the ninth on a wild pitch.

Whitewater’s Sam Petrasko tied the second game at 2-all with a solo homer in the sixth. la Crosse went ahead, 3-2, with a bases-loaded walk in the top of the ninth.

The two teams play another doubleheader starting at noon today at Prucha Field.
