Snappers drop opener

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The 2009 Midwest League baseball season started on a sour note for the Beloit Snappers on Thursday night.

The Cedar Rapids Kernels rallied to tie the game in the bottom of ninth before pushing across a run in the 10th for a 7-6 victory.

Beloit led 6-4 in the eighth thanks to Jon Waltenbury’s two-run double, but the Kernels tied it in the ninth off of Danny Rondon.

Steven Blevins suffered the loss for the Snappers, who left 11 men on base.
