Sophomore Bailey Whittaker pitched the game of her young career as Janesville Craig remained unbeaten in Big Eight softball with a 5-1 victory over Madison La Follette on Thursday.

Whittaker struck out 12 and did not walk a batter.

“She pitched a gem,” Craig head coach Dan Bayreuther said. “The best thing about her was her control. She hit the glove in and out. It was by far her best performance of the year.”

Craig (5-2, 3-0) got a run in the first on an RBI double by catcher Gabrielle Cassady. She also scored on an error. Cassady singled in the fourth and scored on Lindsey Oliver’s RBI hit.

Craig added two more runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Oliver and another by Taylor Wildes.

“We swung the bats better. Our pitching was outstanding and our defense did a good job all night,” Bayreuther said.

The Cougars will host Madison Memorial at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
