UW-Whitewater softball sweeps Platteville

Great pitching and 24 hits, including nine for extra bases, powered UW-Whitewater to a WIAC softball sweep of visiting UW-Platteville on Tuesday.

The Warhawks won by scores of 10-0 and 9-0 to improve to 6-0 in the WIAC and 16-2 overall.

Starting pitcher Jessica Stang held the Pioneers (3-15, 0-4) to one hit while striking out eight in the first game. Stang (8-1) has struck out 75 and walked just seven in 51.1 innings.

Suzanne Gersich went 5-for-6 in the two victories. She had two doubles and a solo homer, driving in four and scoring four times.

Shortstop Amanda LeBeau went 3-for-5, with four RBIs and two runs scored.

Lauren Cruz, Liz Yucius, LeBeau and Gersich each homered in the second game.

Brittany LeBeau and Dianna Frisbie combined for the one-hit shutout, with LeBeau pitching the first four innings of the five-inning game.

The Warhawks play at UW-Stevens Point in a league doubleheader today. They return home to play Illinois Wesleyan University at 3 p.m. Friday in nonconference play.
