— Armed with an axe, a knife and a rifle, three Janesville men are accused of breaking into an East Milwaukee Street home March 30 and ordering three people onto the ground.

They told them to stay facedown with their hands on their heads, then walked into a bedroom and beat a fourth resident, according to the criminal complaint.

They struck him 13 times with the rifle, punched him and smashed a DVD player and vacuum cleaner against his head, according to the criminal complaint.

The incident is believed to be gang related, according to the criminal complaint.

Fernando Garcia, 29, Victor Garcia, 17, and Isaac Cortez, 18, appeared in Rock County Court on Tuesday.

Each faces two counts of party to armed robbery, one count of party to armed burglary and one count of party to substantial battery. The Garcia brothers also face one count of felony bail jumping.

The Garcias live at 219 N. Marion Ave., Janesville, but Cortez has no fixed address.

The men wore black ski masks or bandanas over their faces when they broke through a door at 3206 E. Milwaukee St., according to the criminal complaint.

After ordering three people onto the floor, they went into a bedroom and beat Mark D. Brown, 25, of 3206 E. Milwaukee St., according to the complaint.

One of the attackers accused Brown of sleeping with his girlfriend, according to the criminal complaint, and he told Brown he had a week to pay his $500 debt.

It is unknown what the debt was for, according to the criminal complaint.

The attackers also asked for money and drugs, according to the criminal complaint, and they stole two cell phones.

Brown sustained broken bones in his face, according to the criminal complaint, and he needed stitches on his mouth, head and above his eye.

After the attackers left, Brown and the three others reported the incident to a police officer parked on East Milwaukee Street.

Brown was admitted to Mercy Hospital and released.

yaboy22" You said "yeah cj or "fernando" and victor are good friends of mine, and dont judge someone by what the paper says if you know them personally theyre good people, btw gazette fernando isnt 29 years old lmao, need to get the facts straight, people make mistakes get over it".
Okay dude..."need to get the facts straight, people make mistakes"... which is it dude?!?
"dont judge someone by what the paper says" well first, who says they are being judged? And second, what is your point?!? What are the redeemable qualities of these people in your opinion?
If the facts aren't "straight", please enlighten us!

Dumb kids throwing their lives away.

Killing them is too harsh for the crime. Free room and board on my dime is just plain wrong. Can we bring back the chain-gang? 20 years free labor fixing the roads?

Why lock these idiots up we need the death penalty to get rid of some of this scum. And then we need some one who has the back bone to use it. The freaks will always be a determent to society. We will be paying for these people either in or out of prison. I'm getting sick of paying for these slobs to have free room and board at my expense Then they will get some high priced lawyer at all our expense. What does a bullet cost anyway.

yaboy22 you must be smoking the same junk they are. Are you kidding me? They're both prior felons! Finding trouble once might be a mistake, these guys are habitual. I don't know what good you can see in these guys. 17 and already a felon. You can go visit your buddies in prison, that's where they'll be. You're an idiot!!

I'm so happy that they finally caught these losers. "Lets go try and beat someone half to death over a girl and some drugs.....we're cool now"!

People like this do NOT belong in society at all, JMO!

I think their bullying days are over and I hope the plea offers are not an option for these waste of space in society. Maybe the DAs need to get input from victims and their family members before making an agreement that affects the community as a whole with the likes of these and others like them. No matter what was the reason these above the law thinking low lifes entered the privacy of a persons home and attacked them relentlessly and ruthlessly without caring whether the victims lived or died as to the beating described in this article. We all as a community should have the right to be safe in our own home!!!!!! And to send these guys to prison with the max allowed, might just send a message that Rock County and the city of Janesville has had enough of the gangs and drugs here and are willing to stand tough on convictions and not plead them out and dismiss half of the charges. Just my opinion. Also a gun crime was involved here so lets stand "tough on gun crimes" like they said they were going to do.
