DELAVAN Two new faces will join the Delavan City Council, although one has served on the panel before.
Challenger Mary O’Connor on Tuesday ousted incumbent Cindy Finley in the first district.
Incumbent Ellen Reddy held on to her position in the second district despite a challenge from Sam Riggs.
In the third district, former council member Ron Siedelmann beat Scott Woods for the seat formerly held by Ryan Schroeder.
Reddy said she looks forward to the changes and the new ideas that will come with them.
“It’s always good to get some new ideas into the mix,” Reddy said.
One of the council’s first challenges will be to review the financial situation at Lakelawn Resort, Reddy said. The resort has been behind in some of its payments to the city.
O’Connor said she is thrilled to be able to represent the city where she grew up. She thinks her hard work knocking on doors was the thing that helped her beat incumbent Finley.
“I spoke from the heart,” O’Connor said. “This is important to me.”
O’Connor heard a variety of concerns from residents when she was campaigning, including one concern she had: the council’s recent decision not to financially support the Delavan Chamber of Commerce.
Siedelmann said he was a “vocal” member of the council when he served from 1997-99 and 2000-06.
“I certainly wasn’t a quiet voice,” Siedelmann said. “I think that probably had the most to do with it.”
The council’s first order of business will be getting the city’s financial house in order, Siedelmann said. Residents are hurting financially, and the council needs to be very frugal, he said.
