Incumbents secure return ticket to Lake Geneva council

LAKE GENEVA — The only two Lake Geneva City Council seats up for grabs in Tuesday’s election were kept by incumbents.

Alderman Gary Dunham, District 1, received 186 votes against former Lake Geneva mayor Sheldon Shepstone, who received 112 votes. Alderwoman Mary Jo Fesenmaier, District 2, received 175 against M.L. “Mac” McBride’s 101 votes.

Dunham, 45, of 1251 Wisconsin St., is a lender at Peoples Bank in Elkhorn and has served on the council since 2005. Fesenmaier, 45, of 633 Sue Ann Drive, is a library resource teacher at Eastview Elementary School in Lake Geneva and Star Center Elementary School in Pell Lake, and has been on the council since 2007.

Dunham said he wants to work on Lake Geneva’s growth program and tax incremental finance district, which will bring in more than $2.6 million in general taxes by 2010.

Another priority is developing parking, which Dunham said has become a major headache for visitors and residents on a given summer weekend.

“We need to look at both surface parking and ramp(s), see how our long-term plans and our current funds work together to see what we can accomplish,” he added.

Fesenmaier said she is honored to serve the community for another term. She said she’ll work to develop continued transparency and public education on government issues.

“We’re soon to launch a new Web site, which should give the public access to a lot more information in a timely manner,” she said.
