WHITEWATER The Whitewater City Council will have a mix of new and old, with two incumbents returning and a former council member elected for a new term.
Alderman Patrick Singer, District 5, received 102 votes against Gregory Torres' 57.
James Olsen, who served on the council from 1996 to 2002, received 193 votes against David Stone's 169, and is the incoming 1st District alderman.
Incumbent Marilyn Kienbaum received 778 votes against Roy Nosek's 599, and will return for another term as Whitewater's at-large council member.
"I'm really glad because he (Nosek) had created a lot of animosity, and it's not good for our community," Kienbaum said.
Kienbaum, 60, of 210 N. Park St., is a retired U.S. Census Bureau worker and has served on the council since 1999 and as at-large member for the last four.
Olsen, 51, of 216 N. Queen St., is the manager and funeral director at Olsen Funeral Home. He has previously served on the city council from 1996 to 2002.
"I'm excited, I look forward to serving the district," Olsen said. "The election was run well, (it was a) close race, but they selected me so I'm going to do my best to serve my district."
Olsen's first order of business is to learn the city's needs and "go from there."
Singer, 26, of 1011 W. Shaw Court, is a computer programmer and has served on the council since 2007. The Janesville Gazette was not able to reach Singer for comment.
