— Break out the brooms.

The UW-Whitewater baseball team completed a regular-season sweep of UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday, winning a pair of WIAC games by identical 7-5 scores.

Stevens Point (11-7, 2-4) took an early 4-0 lead in the first game. The Warhawks (10-5, 4-2) took the lead, 6-4, after a five-run sixth inning. The Warhawks recorded those five runs on three singles and two doubles, and two Pointer errors.

Whitewater also came from behind to win the second game.

Stevens Point took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third before UW-W scored. The Warhawks tallied two runs in the top of the fourth to pull within one run. Both runs were scored on back-to-back solo homers by Kevin Zalnis and Rob Coe.

The Warhawks took a 4-3 lead in the top of the eighth. The first three batters in the inning singled to bring up Zalnis who knocked a sacrifice fly to left field to tie the game. A Coe double scored the second run of the inning and gave the Warhawks a lead they would never relinquished.

Three more runs in the top of the ninth gave the Warhawks a 7-3 lead. Ben Kuhlmann hit a two-out, bases loaded single to left field that scored one. A Stevens Point throwing error on Kuhlmann’s hit allowed two more runners to score.

Stevens Point tried to come back in the bottom of the ninth but starting pitcher Aaron Dott stymied the effort after giving up a two-run home run. Dott (3-2) went the distance giving up six hits while striking out eleven.

Coe totaled five hits and four RBIs in the doubleheader. Sam Petrasko chipped in five hits and scored three.

Jason Hooper (2-1) go the win in game one.

The Warhawks are scheduled to play Carroll University in a 2 p.m. doubleheader today at Prucha Field in Whitewater.
