Parker softball team edges East
MADISON Maggie Tracey had a big game on the mound and delivered the game-winning RBI for Janesville Parker as it topped Madison East in a Big Eight Conference thriller.
Tracey gave up one unearned run in the first inning, and then blanked the Purgolders over the final eight innings as the Vikings (1-3, 1-1) finally broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the ninth.
Kassy Hendricks started the winning rally with a walk. She stole second and went to third when the throw deflected off her helmet and into left field. Hendricks then came home on Tracey’s sacrifice fly.
“That should not have been a nine-inning game,” Parker head Jenni Seisser said.
Three of the Vikings’ four hits were triples, but only one of the extra-base hits factored in the Parker scoring.
Parker’s Paige Muehlenkamp tripled in the fourth and scored when the Purgoldgers booted the ball on the same play. Muehlenkamp, who suffered a cut below her left eye in the bottom of the third inning, immediately left the game and went to a hospital where she received four stitches to close the wound.
Heather Loterbauer led of the fifth with a triple but was thrown out at home trying to score on a grounder. Hendricks tripled in the sixth and was called out at home when she didn’t slide and the umpire ruled on an East appeal that she missed home plate.
Tracey finished with five strikeouts and two walks.
“She did a really good job,” Seisser said. “We played much better than we did last weekend. We cut down on our errors and our strikeouts.”
The Vikings will host Madison West on Thursday.
