Janesville scoreboards could feature ads
Podcast Episode
WCLO's Beth Wheelock reports on the proposal to have local companies advertise at high school games.
The Janesville School District's athletic directors are working on a proposal that would bring advertisements to score tables and scoreboards.
The proposal would provide free tables and scoreboards if the district allows the advertising. Steve Salerno, the director of administrative and human services, is reviewing the school board's current policy as it relates to the possible advertising. He says the administrative regulation and policy does not provide for advertising. He says the district needs to have an honest conversation about whether the board should reconsider its policy based on the district's financial situation. He says the district could also create an additional policy that would both honor the existing policy and allow for more leeway.
Salerno says the school district would keep its wellness policy in mind when approving advertising. That means the district would likely turn down ads for soft drinks.
Salerno says there is no timeline for the proposal.
