Janesville man in critical condition after Beloit shooting
BELOIT A Janesville man was in critical condition Friday night after an apparent shootout in a Beloit home Thursday night or Friday morning.
Anthony T. Stewart, 24, of 314 McKinley St., Janesville, was flown by helicopter Friday morning to University Hospital, Madison, Capt. William Tyler said.
Another man, Antoine T. Green, 25, of 1529 Oak Street, Beloit, was taken by ambulance to University Hospital, he said.
The incident might have been drug related, Tyler said.
Police still are trying to learn the details of the incident, he said. They believe a group of people, including Green, were living at the Oak Street home. Another group, including Stewart, showed up Thursday night or Friday morning.
“There was an apparent forced entry at the home, a robbery attempt and then shots were fired between the two groups,” Tyler said.
Green and Stewart were dropped off by private vehicles at Beloit Memorial Hospital, and police were called at 2:26 a.m., according to a news release from the Beloit Police Department. Stewart was transferred by helicopter and Green was transferred by ambulance to University Hospital, Tyler said.
Both were in critical condition Friday morning, the release said. Stewart remained in critical condition Friday night, a spokeswoman at University Hospital said.
The spokeswoman said she couldn’t find record of Green being at the hospital. Tyler said Green was stable Friday afternoon.
Police are unsure how many people were involved in the incident, and they don’t know of any other injuries, Tyler said. They have some information about the identities of the shooters but weren’t releasing that information Friday, he said.
