Waunakee's Late rally stymies Craig
JANESVILLE Janesville Craig High School’s softball team suffered its first loss of the season Friday afternoon.
Waunakee rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh en route to a 5-3 nonconference win over the Cougars at Dawson Field.
Craig (2-1) led 3-2 going into the seventh, but two Cougar errors and two Waunakee hits led to three Warrior runs.
“We’re still pretty young, and you expect those things to happen,” Craig coach Dan Bayreuther said of his team’s five errors. “But you hope you learn from it and don’t let it happen again. We kind of gave this one away.”
Craig’s Gabrielle Cassady continued her torrid start to the season. The junior catcher had two hits, including a two-run double, and has now collected seven hits in three games. She homered Thursday in a Big Eight Conference win over Sun Prairie.
The Cougars has two nonconference home games today. Craig plays Milton at noon and Fort Atkinson at 2 p.m., both a Dawson Field.
