There's still time to vote absentee

— Packed your bags for spring break? Check.

Put your mail and newspaper on hold? Check.

Voted? Um, not yet.

With Election Day falling during spring break for many area school districts, voting before you leave for vacation might not be the highest priority.

But you still have time.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail is 5 p.m. Thursday, Rock County Clerk Lori Stottler said. The deadline to vote in person by absentee is 5 p.m. Monday.

The main thing with mailing your ballot is making sure it arrives at the clerk's office by Election Day. If it comes through the following morning, your vote won't count, Stottler said.

For township residents planning to vote absentee in person, Stottler suggests calling their clerk first because many of them have only part-time hours.

Janesville City Clerk Jean Wulf said she's seen average spring election traffic so far. She's predicting about a 20 percent turnout.

In Rock County, the Janesville, Beloit, Beloit Turner and Edgerton school districts all are on spring break next week.

Stottler is predicting a 10- to 15-percent voter turnout countywide. That's about average for a local spring election, she said.

Go to the Municipal Building. You will see the voting booths in the front lobby. Ask at the window for an absentee ballot. You will need your drivers license! Be sure to DRAW A LINE ACROSS the arrow to VOTE, and WRITE IN "BACKENKELLER" for City Council!
