JANESVILLE A committee dedicated to improving local transportation options wants input from those who pound the pavement every day.
The Rock County Transportation Coordinating Committee is hosting a meeting Thursday for people who use or provide transportation in the county.
The committee was charged with finding needs or holes in the area's public transpiration system, said Joyce Lubben with the Rock County Council on Aging.
They have done so but welcome more input from those who use the system or provide transportation services, she said.
The more ideas, the better, Lubben said.
"There isn't going to be any magic answer because there's very little funding," Lubben said. "But we need to open the discussion."
As an example, Lubben shared two gaps the transportation committee has identified:
-- People who work third shift don't have a lot of options to get to and from work.
"If you go to work at 11 p.m. and come home at 7 a.m., you don't have a lot of choices," Lubben said.
-- Services are available for elderly people to get to medical appointments, but those aren't the only important appointments in a person's life.
Something as simple as getting to church or getting to a hair appointment could make a big improvement in a person's quality of life, Lubben said.
The transportation committee is made up of local agencies with a stake in how their clients move in and around Rock County, Lubben said.
Anyone is welcome at the meeting, and anyone is welcome to join the committee, she said. Lubben encourages anyone who provides public or private transpiration to attend.
