Rescued goats and horses find foster homes
LIMA TOWNSHIP The animals are moving quickly from Harlan Norby’s farm on North Vickerman Road in Lima Township.
Some of them are, anyway.
A local goat rescue took 28 pygmy goats into foster care over the weekend, said Jim Hurley with the Rock County Humane Society. He did not know the name of the rescue organization.
Spirit Horse Equine Rescue and Education Center took 10 horses to temporary homes and is working hard to find space and equipment for the other 20 horses, said Spirit Horse spokesman DeeDee Golberg.
The horses were not surrendered to the Rock County Humane Society, as was incorrectly reported on page 4A Sunday. The humane society contacted Spirit Horse, and the animals were surrendered to that rescue group.
All thirty horses need rehabilitation, training and medical attention before they will be adoptable, Golberg said.
The Rock County Humane Society went to Norby’s farm earlier this month in response to neighbors’ complaints.
The biggest challenge will be finding homes for more than 20 llamas, Hurley said. Once all the other animals are accounted for, he will turn to that project.
In the meantime, Norby will care for the llamas, Hurley said.

Judging from the comments on this & the previous article, many people don't realize that a "rescue" is not a "home". These horses will need medical attention & training before homes can be found for them. This is a very expensive & time consuming undertaking. Please consider donating to the Spirit Horse Equine Rescue to help them in their efforts. Thanks to DeeDee Golberg & all the volunteers for your love & hard work for the horses!
