— The Janesville City Council is close to an employment agreement with Eric Levitt, and a council delegation to Sedona, Ariz., has been given the authority to offer him the job of city manager on Wednesday.

Three council members—council president Amy Loasching, vice president Bill Truman and Tom McDonald—and community member Mary Willmer Sheedy were on their way to the airport this morning to fly to Sedona.

There, they will interview community members about Levitt, 40. If all goes well, the delegation will offer him the contract, which the council finalized Sunday during a closed meeting.

“We could offer it to Mr. Levitt on Wednesday when we are out there,” Loasching said. “More than likely, we’ll wait and offer it to him on Thursday when he’s here in Janesville.

Levitt and his family are visiting Janesville later this week to look for housing.

“The delegation will make the decision on Wednesday as to whether we are happy with the site visit,” Loasching said.

If the delegation is undecided or decides Levitt is not the right fit for Janesville, it will return to Janesville to meet again with the council.

The council and Levitt have been negotiating since the council decided Sept. 17 he was the best interview of two finalists, and Loasching believes the two sides are close to an agreement.

The contract would be ratified by the council in open session Monday, Oct. 13.

Is there anyway he can bring the 76Million
in debt he ran up in Sedona with him?
Sedona thanks to Levitt's leadership? pays
out 33 cents of every dollar to pay debt.
Why is he leaving?
The 2009 Sedona budget is negative nearly
2 Million.
He had no choice but to leave the city of
Sedona is so indebted that it can't borrow
anymore. He considers bond borrowing to
be city revenue.
Good luck Janesville, you'll need it.

You have 35,000 proxy votes, or what?

On the behalf of the majority of the City I would like to tell the council they are out of their minds if they bring this guy on board.

"Majority my you know what."

Hard to argue with that logic!

And don't worry about B'moon. Her posse is only composed of the voices she hears.

Welcome to Janesville Mr. Levitt. I think I speak on behalf of the majority of City residents who look forward to your arrival. My guess is you will find twice the house in Janesville for half the price you paid on your current home in Sedona. It is one of the many benefits of living in the midwest. I expect you will come with a fresh view and plenty of enthusiasm. We could use a little of both right about now. Best wishes and good luck with your career move.

I would presume he would bring his family to look at the city, schools, houses and the jobs presuming his wife works. So they all get a feel for the city ad see if they want to move here.

I know someone who's been trying to sell a house for quite a while. Arizona to Janesville. I hope we don't get the same type of winter we had last year, or he'll catch a one way ticket back to Sedona after his first year here. The best thing for this city is a computer city manager. People could feed it numbers and if we don't have enough money in the budget is says no. That would save us 100,000 dollar a year. Spending is our biggest problem in this city or the whole country for that matter.

Ernie, he was selected pending the visit, so yes, "he's got the job". Unless they turn up something major both parties expect to sign the contract. Even if he comes here this week looking for housing, he's certainly not going to close on something that quick -- and while hopefully he won't have a problem selling his home in Sedona (as opposed to say Irvine, CA), wouldn't you want to start looking as soon as possible?
.
Janesville is in a situation now where we do not have a (permanent) city manager, so there really isn't any reason to delay.

Oh my, let's see. . . I heard it was a step forward in his career coming to a larger city and increasing his salary. Think that might have anything to do with it?

Has anyone heard why he is interested in leaving Sedona to come to Janesville? If everyone loves him down there and it's such a nice place to live, why come here?

Ernie - I agree with you. If the contract has already been finalized, and council members are now only trying to figure out the right day to give it to Levitt, then why are they traveling to Sedona? Shouldn't that have been done sooner in the process, while there were still other options on the table? Something to think about next time around, maybe?

If Levitt is looking for housing already and the council has been negotiating, Then he must have the job? Then Why do they need to go out there? I understand to check out his resume and credentials, But it almost sounds as if he's got the job?
