WCLO's Stan Stricker reports on the number of Janesville burglaries

RSS

The Janesville Police Department is keeping a close eye on this year's burglary statistics.

This year's numbers are up considerably from last year. Lieutenant Tim Hiers says the statistics show close to 350 burglaries by the end of August this year, compared to 250 at the same time last year. He says the numbers aren't as bad as they sound, because last year saw far fewer burglaries than usual. However, with an average ten burglaries a week in Janesville, it's important to protect yourself. He says be sure to keep your doors, windows, and cars secure. He says many thieves take the opportunity of easy access.

He also suggests leaving a light on, or some other appearance someone is home.
